The Lord has shown me that the enemy is beefing up his attack against women in the Body of Christ, especially married women with prophetic callings. This attack is both subtle and widespread against Christian women of all nations. The attack is not a new one and is still as effective today as it was in the beginning when Eve was tricked. Being a Prophetess of the Lord, it is my duty to warn the children of God about the enemy’s plan. Titus 1:10a and 1:11a-c declares, “For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers. . . Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not. . .” Not everyone who reads this warning is going to take heed to it. However, those who do heed the Word of the Lord shall save their own soul and many others from eternal damnation.
There are three evil spirits operating in many churches today: the spirit of Jezebel, the spirit of witchcraft, and the spirit of the matriarch. These three spirits work together.
The spirit of Jezebel carries with it the characteristics of Queen Jezebel in the Bible. As you will read, Jezebel hated God and all that he represented. A woman operating in this spirit will never yield to authority and will hate to see the children of God prosper. She does not fear the Lord so there will be no limit to her actions.
Sometimes women are told they have a Jezebel spirit because they are controlling or use the way they look to entice men, yet this was not the only thing Jezebel operated in. Jezebel knew what she was doing was evil for she operated in witchcrafts. She was a rebellious and cursed woman. The Bible declares in 2 Kings 9:34d-g, “Go, see now this cursed woman, and bury her: for she is a king’s daughter.” The Bible also declares in 2 Kings 9:22g-h, “What peace, so long as the whoredoms of thy mother Jezebel and her witchcrafts are so many.” The spirit of witchcraft operates along with the spirit of Jezebel. A woman with these spirits has a strong spiritual relationship with those in the heaven-lies, yet the relationship is not with the Lord Jesus. Many of these women have what seems like prophetic gifts, but their counselors are devils and fami-liar spirits. In the Bible, Jezebel knew who her god was and it was not the Lord Jehovah. She was a worshipper of Baal, 1 Kings 16:31.
Today, every woman’s lifestyle should be weighed against the Word of God to see if she walks in Christian conduct. Her confession is not enough and her sincerity concerning the Lord Jesus should never be measured by what may appear to be spiritual gifts or a strong prayer life. A common characteristic of women fighting this spirit or operating in it is a history of practicing witchcraft – whether directly or indirectly through her family lineage. Another characteristic is the amount of time these women spend in prayer and rarely in the Word of God because this spirit will not allow them to grow in the Word.
Even though they do not know scripture they are the main ones with their mouths open; talking about what the Lord said and the Lord has not spoken because the things they say clearly do not line up with scripture. They spend a lot of time in prayer and worship and less and less in the Holy Scriptures, the King James Version of the Bible, because this is where they feel most comfortable. There are many voices in this world and in the spirit realm; and the only way to know the voice of the Lord is through his Word and not an emotional feeling. Many of the things they will say do not line up with scripture and yet they will feel the Lord is talking to and through them. And when others who know scripture disagree or try to tell them the truth, the spirit of Jezebel will cause the woman to verbally and/or physically attack the messenger or mouth piece the Lord is using. I’m not saying that all these women have this spirit indwelling; what I am saying is that many can have this spirit following them around hindering their walk with the Lord and do not know it.
Jezebel despised and hated the prophets of the Lord. 1 Kings 18:4b declares, “. . . Jezebel cut off the prophets of the Lord . . .” She hates the children of God and will do whatever possible to destroy those who carry the Word of the Lord. The woman who is like Jezebel hates Godly men and will do whatever she can to bring the man of God down to take his place. She does not fear the Lord God, will openly refuse to operate in his Word, will not repent, nor fear the consequences of her actions. The woman who has been infiltrated by the spirit of Jezebel will HATE APOSTLES, PROPHETS, AND PROPHETESS’ or any of those in the FIVE-FOLD ministry offices. It is not uncommon for her to attempt to or to succeed in attacking them verbally and physically. She may even send up witchcrafts in the spirit to attack the Lord’s servants. Think about it: Jezebel pursued Elijah to kill him. 1 Kings 19:1-2 declares: “And Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and withal how he had slain all the (false) prophets with the sword. Then Jezebel sent a messenger unto Elijah, saying, So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by to morrow about this time.”
Jezebel was always in competition with her husband. Instead of him leading her, she was instructing and directing him to do evil. 1 Kings 21:5-7 declares, “But Jezebel his wife came to him, and said unto him, why is thy spirit so sad, that thou eatest no bread? And he said unto her, Because I spake unto Naboth the Jezreelite, and said unto him, Give me thy vineyard for money; or else, if it please thee, I will give thee another vineyard for it: and he answered, I will not give thee my vineyard. And Jezebel his wife said unto him, Dost thou now govern the kingdom of Israel? arise, and eat bread, and let thine heart be merry: I will give thee the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite,” Jezebel was able to operate the way she did because she was stronger than her husband. This is where the matriarch spirit can assist the spirit of Jezebel. The matriarch spirit by itself tends to control. It causes the woman to stand up and do what the man will not do. It has the strength to get the job done so when coupled with the spirit of Jezebel it can do great damage in a household or in a church if it is not identified and cast out of the person or away from their presence!
One way we know that the enemy is strategically planning to destroy a marriage union, institution, organization, or country, etc. is we will see the woman begin to reposition herself from subordinate positions to positions of headship. This is the matriarch spirit. The enemy may also begin to attack the woman who will then try to entice or succeed at enticing her husband to sin; Eve is a prime example of this. Genesis 3:4-6 declares, “And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.” A woman that is in a power struggle with her husband will cause friction in the home and may not realize repositioning herself is the source.
Additionally, a woman who is operating in the spirit of Jezebel will call herself Bishop, Apostle, or Prophet. She will do things that are CONTRARY to the Word of God and say, “God gave me a revelation.” Whatever God is in, it will line up with the Word of God, yet these women will be the very ones to tell you they don’t understand the Word of God and will often openly disagree with scripture because the Lord has not given them understanding. I cannot count the number of women we have met that acknowledged they didn’t know the Bible, yet they could not be corrected when they were speaking error. A woman with this spirit will have a problem with verses of scripture that admonish women to honor and obey their husbands, and the man of God. I don’t believe the Lord is speaking to the woman who disrespects her husband, doesn’t submit to his headship, or has placed herself in a position of authority above her husband’s position. If a woman is doing this, she is in rebellion to scripture and according to 1 Samuel 15:23a, she is operating in witchcraft - “For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft” PERIOD! This is the true spirit of Jezebel.
Another thing, the error that these women operate in will be so blatant that they will look foolish to everyone around them, and they will not realize it. Think about it: a Bishop is the HUSBAND of one wife according to 1 Timothy 3:2b. An Apostle, according to the Strong’s Concordance, is defined as: one sent, HE who is sent, messenger, ambassador. Jesus gave us examples of how God has set up authority in his Body. He didn’t choose any women Apostles because the office represents headship. Yet there are those who think that Apostle Paul was referring to a woman in Romans 16:7 - when he said to greet Andronicus and Junia his kinsmen (male relatives). If he was referring to a woman why didn’t he say kinswoman (a female relative)? Why are there so many people doubting the Word of God? It is a dangerous thing for people to say that scripture has been changed for any reason, in any way, because if we can’t believe one verse than we can’t believe any of it; and this leaves the Bible open to the whims of humans.
I can’t understand why this would be such a great issue unless there is a woman somewhere trying to usurp authority over a man; which Apostle Paul warned us not to allow, 1 Timothy 2:12 - “But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.” When you think about Apostle Paul and his stand concerning women, there is no way he was calling a woman an Apostle! I mean, he was so certain that her nature (intrinsic quality) was weaker he didn’t suffer a woman to teach; that is why she has to have a COVERING to watch over her because women are the weaker vessels. He was so adamant about women being in subordinate positions that he said women need to learn in silence and ask their husband questions when they get home, 1 Corinthians 14:34a and 35b.
When Apostle Paul was greeting women in his letters, he made it very clear when it was a woman he was referring to; so why would anyone dare to think that Apostle Paul addressed a man and a woman in Romans 16:7 and called them both kinsmen? I could have a debate with you about the name Junia (Junias), the true meaning of kinsmen, etc. However, I will not. If you desire to have a woman rule over you it is your business, but I’m telling you that you will be opening a door for her to cause your vision to falter and ultimately fail, Isaiah 3:12. – “As for my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. O my people, they which lead thee cause thee to err, and destroy the way of thy paths.”
Let’s continue talking about the error these women operate in concerning titles. A Prophet is a MAN which also means he is in a position of headship. A woman, who is called a Prophetess, can never be the head. She must have her head covered by her husband. The scripture declares that a woman who has the inspired gift of utterance is called a Prophetess, not a Prophet. In Luke 2:36 Anna was called a Prophetess, not a Prophet. There is no woman Prophetess in the Bible that was called a Prophet, period! So why are there so many people changing the Word of God and so many who hear someone speaking error who immediately jump on the band wagon instead of eschewing and correcting it?
A woman with the spirit of Jezebel will change the Word of God to fit her desires. She will not be comfortable being a woman, so she will always be trying to make herself equal to or put herself above the man. She will think that he needs her permission to do the will of God. She will think she is more anointed than him and will tell him so. She will also think that he is to be accountable to her and not the Lord only. When a woman places herself in a position of headship, by calling herself any title reserved for males, things change in the spirit realm and she opens doors to be attacked by the enemy, even to be attacked by her own husband, because the man will feel the power struggle in the spirit realm. It is in the man’s nature to defend his place of authority, even if it’s unconsciously.
My husband and I have witnessed by first hand personal experience, real live Jezebel spirits in some of the churches we have visited and in the ministry wherein we have been entrusted. Normally one would not speak of these things, but too many people are quiet about the enemy’s attacks in the Body of Christ enabling him to be successful in bringing down many houses. Again, Titus 1:11 warned that there will be those who subvert houses, both church houses and households. This word subvert in the Strong’s Concordance (S.C.) (396 Gk.) means to overturn, overthrow. Overturn in the Merriam-Webster Collegiate Dictionary (MWCD) means to cause to turn over: UPSET, invalidate, destroy and reverse the Word of God, Godly teachings, and the vision of the Lord for your ministry and household. Overthrow in the (MWCD) means to cause the downfall of: Bring down, defeat the ministry and her household with her perverted way of thinking, her wrong mindset, and her teachings.
How will you know if a woman is being attacked by the spirit of Jezebel? Ask the Lord and he will straightway tell you. Another way to know is when a woman who has been delivered from these spirits unexpectedly has what some may think are relapses. In actuality, if she is a woman who is sensitive to the spirit realm and she suddenly behaves abnormally, it means the spirit is in the house (household and/or ministry). She is able to recognize the spirit because she has battled it before.
If a married woman is battling the spirit, look for these signs:
- She will despise her husband, if even she once honored him. When this changes, a door has been opened to the enemy and needs to be closed quickly.
- She will circumvent her husband’s instructions. She will think she has a better way or will say the spirit is telling her something different. Pay attention to the words she uses. Women fighting this spirit or infiltrated by this spirit may say: “my holy spirit told me” so and so; “the spirit told me” so and so; or “we have to follow the spirit!” None of these sayings are referring to the Lord and does not identify what spirit is communicating with her.
- She willfully humiliates her husband privately and publicly, yet will assert that she loves him.
- She will not honor him as the man of God. She will not honor him as her husband and will not receive him as her head.
- It is very common for her to find fault with him in many areas. If the husband has a quiet nature, is meek, or walks in humility, she will see him as weak. She may say that he has no backbone and is a wimp that is afraid to speak up or take a stand.
- If she has children, she will teach their children to disrespect their dad, her husband, and will always give them counsel contrary to his.
- She will not receive correction from anyone because she is always right! She will adamantly declare this.
- She will do a lot of gossiping and will talk about her husband to her female friends and family members.
- There will be no peace in the home of a woman operating in this spirit and the home will be divided, usually against the husband. A woman who is operating in this spirit will never be able to dwell with a true Godly man in peace.
- She will emotionally manipulate those around her to the point that they will agree with (overlook) her behavior that is clearly unbecoming of Christian conduct. The manipulation may be to a degree that those close to her may defend her against those who try to correct her. This usually means that the spirit has seduced all those in its path.
- A woman with the spirit of Jezebel may also operate in whoredom, often having sex with different men in the church. This is another way she destroys the vision by causing those she’s having sex with to undermine, disrespect, and despise the spiritual leader of the ministry.
If a single woman is battling the spirit, look for these similar signs:
- She will not receive instruction from her spiritual leader and will often seek out a woman to guide her instead of a man.
- If the spiritual leader has a wife that believes in and teaches according to scripture - the principles of male headship and that the woman should be in a place of submission, she will hate her. This is important, because the spirit of Jezebel teaches and believes contrary to these principles.
- She will also do a lot of gossiping and will talk about her spiritual leaders and the members in the church to her female counselors.
- Often, she is one that will talk in the ears of the other church members that are women to draw them after her. It is common for people to suddenly leave a ministry because of this spirit.
- She will sometimes have an intercessory prayer line made up of other women that have this same spirit who will agree with her error and reassure her that the Lord is with her and is going to bless her.
- One of the main things to look for is that she and her cohorts will hate and not trust men.
- Again, the woman operating in this spirit will emotionally manipulate those around her with crying spells, outbursts, yelling, screaming, and/or fits of rage. Even when those around her do not like her embarrassing behavior, her conduct will be so commonplace that no one will say anything to her about it. And when the Lord sends the consequences many feel sorry for her.
In conclusion, please understand that YOU CANNOT KEEP THESE spirits IN CHECK. THEY MUST BE CAST OUT! And if the vessel is unwilling to be delivered, pray that the Lord removes them from your home and/or church because if He doesn’t these spirits will seek to destroy what the Lord has told you to build and they will not stop until the vision is completely ruined. And if you care more about the person(s) who desires to WILLINGLY operate in these spirits, than you do the vision of God, then I feel sorry for all those souls you have been entrusted with, both in your home and ministry. AMEN!
